Overeating ... a sin?

Quote du jour:
Sin passes itself off as an expansion, an emancipation at the moment of yielding to it, every sinner is inclined to believe this. The very opposite is true. By sinning I emancipate myself only from my own proper nature, my own happy destiny, choosing a falsification of myself, following a road without a goal, or, rather, one whose goal is not what I am seeking: my own perdition. What a queer emancipation! ...
Fr. Antonin Gilbert Sertillanges, O.P.

If you replaced the word "sin" with "overeating" or any other unhealthy activity, this quote works just as well.

Goal for the month: 30 day purge

Goal for the week: I swear, nose to pillow. 9 p.m. Me. Why not?

Exercise du jour: C25k week 3
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then do two repetitions of the following:
  • Jog 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
  • Walk 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
  • Jog 400 yards (or 3 minutes)
  • Walk 400 yards (or 3 minutes)
Not so much fail, as otherwise succeeded. Pushed the C25k off until tomorrow, since I did it yesterday. Walked 4 miles instead. Plus, got up at crack o' dawn to do yoga for 1/2 hour. Why has no one ever mentioned the smug after-effect of doing yoga before the sun comes up?

Quote stolen leveraged from the Happy Catholic blog.

Good goals. You can do it!

Sin is a concept invented by the Church to make people feel guilty for anything the church disapproved of. They get to name the "crime", decide what constitutes it, who's guilty of it, how they should be punished for it, and when or if they have redeemed themselves. Oh, and not telling them about the "crime" is itself a crime. It's a neat system.

In a more civilized world there are only activities that get you closer to your goals, or ones that don't. There is no special virtue or sin attached to them. One should take pride in accomplishing the actions leading to your goals, and learn from the ones that do not.

Sin is simply not doing what is best for you or others, what is most loving. "Sin" is just a shorthand name for it.

It takes more love for yourself to feed yourself well when you want to eat junk than to just give in to the junk.
