Quote du jour: “Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”
― H. Jackson Brown Jr.
I've got a new idea for making a fool of myself in public. I spend three hours a day sitting on a train. Why not work some exercise into that time? So I've packed an exercise band in next to my lunch. The Wes train in the afternoon starts out with few enough passengers that I can do some arm exercises without putting someone's eye out.
I tried it last Friday. The conductors suggested some good exercises. And what the hell. Haven't been deliberately foolish in a while now.
Exercise du jour: 15 minutes waving my arms around with an exercise band and trying not to feel foolish.

That's good foolish though. You'll probably even start an exercising-during-your-commute trend. You do live in Oregon after all. :)
I suggest kettle bell swinging. Seriously. Think of all the room you'll be given. No more smelly old men up in your face.
The kettle bell suggestion cracked me up. And exercise bands seem like an excellent idea! Bet anyone observing would just be jealous they didn't have some along. And I won't be surprised, if you keep it up, if you end up with company as I bet you'll inspire fellow commuters.
and you could start talking to yourself. most people will you enough space you could probably do an entire 3 hour workout and not bump a soul.
Seriously, a great idea to sneak in exercise.
It's brilliant! Maybe you'll start a movement and all the other passengers will join in!
Excellent use of time!
Got a lot of funny looks. Felt self-couscious, like I was on stage and the audience was getting ready to hold up scores. But I still think it's an idea. And if the audience gets too judgmental, I'll just have to start working out with a mace or a morningstar :)
This is quite awesome
I love this idea! If I was on that train, I'd want to join in. You might could even charge for equipment rental :)
Good for you! I'm sure pretty sure all the other passengers will join in too. Soon you'll have a real-deal aerobics instructor giving actual classes on the train! And why not!
Ohmydeargawd I love this so much. And SO wish I could be on the train with you.
LOL. You'd better ask a friend to video you while doing that arm exercise of yours.
