Uncomfortable truths

It's almost the end of the year. I have to confess that I have not accomplished what I wanted this year. I have gained a whole lot of muscle strength (100 push ups, 200 situps, a whole lot o' walking), but I haven't lost the weight. I lost a little, but not much.

I know I should be glad for the gifts that I've got (stronger, fitter), but even so there's a bit of disappointment mixed in with the gratitude. Yes, I'm healthier and in many ways much better, but I'm being honest here. I wanted a bit more.
But hey! I got a beautiful shawl for Christmas...

Exercise du jour: I was going to bicycle to work, but since it's all snow and ice 'round my place, methinks I'll stick to walking. Maybe I'll build a snowman. That will use up some calories!
I Yoga'd, I Walked. Okay, if you want to be persnickety, I did not Snowman, but two out of three counts for something. Especially walking on slushy/ice/snowy sidwalks while dodging traffic across intersections.

Platitudes when you feel this way don't do a thing to lift your spirits or make you feel better, so I won't give you any.

Just know that I believe in you, that you can and will succeed, despite down times.

May the New Year bring you much joy.

Thank you, MessyM! I guess it's the end-of-year thing, wanting to look back and see great progress. Could've been a lot worse, that's certain.

If you really want to lose weight, buddy, you will have to change the way you eat. I'm sorry, you know I love you, but that's the only thing that works well for weight loss. I think it's great that you have done so well with being active!

Dr J, you can throw uncomfortable truths at me any time :)
That's why I've joined Weight Watchers, to track food and develop strategies for eating healthy even during rushed times.

You know where you erred; there's no point in beating yourself up. The trick is to use the truths to change and move forward. 2010 is going to be your year!

For what it's worth, I think it's great that you accomplished you 100 push up challenge...I remember reading along as you would do this, thinking that I could never do a push up...but when my trainer started making me do "real" push ups, I knew I could because you did.

I think that the situps and pushups are an amazing accomplishment. I know I can't do that. Progress comes in small steps. You're doing great!

I'm in the same boat as you - did some good for myself this year but not nearly enough. And I'm feeling the disappointment - again.

Maybe 2010 is your year - joining WW will certainly help tackle the food issues. Happy New Year!

Have fun with your 5k race!! (Tomorrow if I'm remembering right)

You'll do great! And remember, no shame in taking walk breaks!

Thank you, Theresa! The race starts in (gulp) 4-1/2 hours. I'm sitting here feeling nervous, so your timing is (as always) impeccable!
