Party Gras on Mardi Gras?

Quote du jour: The amount of sleep required by the average person is five minutes more.
- Wilson Mizener

Another reason to take public transportation: it is not a good idea to drive when I'm this sleepy.

Another reason to walk at lunch. I go to work every morning when it's pitch dark outside. I leave work and it's equally dark. If I don't get out for a walk at lunch, it feels like I'm stuck in one eternal night until winter is over. That feeling creeps me out.

Another good reason to keep a blog. It feels like I'm in a rut, but if I look back, I can see progress. Even though damn back gets cranky if I sit too long, it doesn't fuss so much about the elliptical. It got annoyed with me last night, because I had the effrontery to try to pick something up off the floor. (Can I get a doctor's note to excuse me from house cleaning? And would the house elves do it for me?) Once I get the place organized, I need to go in for some ritualized form of stretching and strengthening, like yoga.

Exercise du jour: 45 minutes elliptical. Pushing things a little further.

UPDATE : done!

I also go and return to work in the dark. It's the pits. I am with you on the importance of lunch walks. At least spring is coming...thus more sunlight soon!

Yikes! Living in darkness is not only depressing, it's actually not healthy. I read some study once that compared cancer rates and exercise... only they found that while there was some benefit to exercising indoors, there was a huge statistical difference between people who exercised outdoors vs. indoors. My theory is that it's vitamin D... or at least I think that's got to be part of it.

Anyhow, I try to spend some time outside in the sunshine every day, even if it's just doing something stupid like taking out the garbage or walking to the store. I'm not sure whether the health benefits are real or not, but the attitude adjustment part certainly is! :~)

Alas, ECL, we don't get much sunshine in the winter. But it's still good to get out. I just wish my building had a window.

Andrea, it almost feels like spring now!

OMG... no window?!? It's starting to sound more like torture every minute. You have my deepest and most sincere condolences. I really don't think I could handle the Pacific Northwest, I usually fight the cats for the sunbeams around here.

Hoping for an early spring for you, it sounds like you need it.

Darn back. Mine was yelling at me a couple of days ago.

"Once I get the place organized, I need to go in for some ritualized form of stretching and strengthening, like yoga." -- I believe you exercise more than I have, but your sentence clicked with me. Melissa from Too Much On Her Plate had asked the question, "Are you waiting to get everything organized before you take time for yourself?" That was a big YES for me.

"After we are moved and settled in..."
"Let me do this first."
"I just have to get this done."
"The project is will be due soon."
"People are waiting for..."
"Once I do this with/for the kids..."
"When Danny goes back to work..."
"When the kids are back in school..."

I never made regular time for my exercise or meal planning. Something always got in the way. Usually that something was my expectations.

I had to claim a time everyday -- everybody/thing/mess is ignored.

Maybe you have to organize so you have the space to do yoga/stretching, otherwise, go for the stretching or whatever you need to do to take care of you.

Gina, that's very true. I am always saying things like, "when I'm thinner, I'll go out more" or something like that. I need to work on that.
In this case, I moved all my furniture out of my office so I could paint it. The living room is stuffed to the gills with furniture and boxes. Now that Damn Back is easing up on the unreasonableness, I'm starting to move things back -- very, very gently.
