We Runners

Last week, I was standing at the street corner waiting for the light to change. A woman came running up to wait next to me.
I nodded to her. "How far are you going?"
"Oh, eight miles today," she answered. She was lean and fit but her tone was friendly, so I felt bold enough to share something with her.
"I ran over two miles today. That was the first time I've ever done that."
She didn't laugh. Instead, she looked delighted. "That's great! You're going to be addicted in no time. You'll love it!" The light turned green, and she nodded to me and ran on ahead.

And I felt like one of the gang.

Exercise du jour: Two miles jogging, hopefully around the Nike trail. The tendons don't complain when I jog there.
Done! Not at Nike, alas. But even 2 miles at home... the time went by really fast. I mean, usually I'm checking my watch every 5 minutes. This time, I went about 20 minutes without looking once. Weird. Plus, 5 miles walking (morning, noon, and night).

That's awesome, Merry. I hope to write that I jogged over 2 miles someday in my blog! Keep up the great work :).

That is one of my favorite things about us runners! Whether we're running marathons or 5Ks (or 1 milers), we are, overall, a super supportive group. When I did my first marathon, all my friends (who had between them an average of 4+ marathons) were so supportive. And they were equally supportive of my husband when he hit an all time mileage high of 4 miles a couple of weeks ago.

We are good people! (Soon you'll have to change your sidebar from "jogged" to "ran" I think!)

How very cool - I've noticed that from other runners as well.

The Nike trail sounds magical with its' tendon-soothing properties! I wanna run there!

Great job!

And I've always been encouraged by the how friendly other runners are. What a cool "club" to belong to.

Excellent!

Celebrate each victory, and soon you will be the one encouraging passers-by.

That's so neat! I'm always so intimidated by the hardcore folks out there, whether it is the 25mph cycling line or the running elite. I guess I need to "get over it" and get over it soon. There are all sorts out there and I'm just one of those sorts. I'm W4D2 (tomorrow) in the C25K program and just need to keep it going and not worry so much about how much further I'll take this. I'm just an individual among a large family of individuals.

Thanks for your post!

Love that. Runners are great.

And so glad to hear the tendons are getting more forgiving. A running addiction is a great one to have!

I love when runners are friendly. We're definitely friendlier than bicyclists!

Way awesome. It is such a shot in the arm when random strangers cheer you on.
