A mighty idea

No exercise posted today, except for incidental walking. What I'm going to do instead is force my antisocial loner self through the doors of a place that's holding a Weight Watchers meeting. Apparently you can show up to a meeting free, to test the waters. If it turns out that they don't actually indulge in ritual human sacrifice or other arcane and unpleasant activities, I might want to start going on a regular basis.

That's a pretty big might for one antisocial loner of a woman. I figure if I post it here, I'll be obliged to go. Otherwise, I would be sure to talk myself out of it. We'll see how it goes.

Actually, I should be giving this star to you. If it hadn't been for the comments, and the knowledge that people out there were expecting me to follow through on what I'd posted, I would never have gone to that meeting tonight. Which I survived.
As it happens, the leader did not have horns on her head and a forked tail -- but I understand those can be surgically removed. And the people attending were friendly without being pushy, but that could merely be a wile designed to lure me in. We'll see.
All I know is that this works for some people, and I need a kick from someone, so I'll try it for a month and see if I survive the ordeal more or less intact. Hopefully less.

Hmmm - seems that thought is being pumped out into the air and a few of us are breathing it in. 24 Hr Fitness has leased spaced to WW and this may be why I've been avoiding the gym...the thought has crossed my mind a time or two. The At Home program worked when I stuck with it, so why not further humiliation with group weigh-ins. YEA!!!!

Ok, if you go, I'll go (but only after Thanksgiving - I'm totally planning to pig out next Thursday and Friday).

Go, Merry. I mean, really, go, Merry.

I'm a fan of WW because it's sensible and more about changing bad habits than the ugly "d" word.

And trust me, no matter what you think of yourself, there's somebody there who is in a worse place than you are. If they can face the weekly ritual, so you can you.

arsthyp? or ars thy q?

Just think how much fun it will be to report back to us on their arcane rituals. Think, intrepid reporter!!

I went for about 6 months with my daughter and we had a great time. Our leader was hysterical, it wasn't really mortifying and we both enjoyed ourselves. After awhile we were both happy with our results and life kept getting in the way but I would do it again if I needed to get back on track (right now I'm using Spark). BTW, I've never commented but I wanted to let you know I really enjoy your blog, you're quite funny and I love that dog of yours, I have a bird that looks just like him-no feathers. :)

Go Merry! Being somewhat antisocial myself, I have never attended a meeting. I'll be interested to hear what you think. But I still won't go. Just so you know.

Go, Merry! I have thought about going back myself on occasion, but can't get past the mandatory weigh-ins. In the long run, they do me more mental harm than the meeting does me good. If I could figure out how to attend the meeting without letting them know my weight, I totally would!

The Merry said...

Marste, can you ask them not to tell you what the weight is, or write it down somewhere you can't access the info? Or is that too crazy an idea?

RebeccaJ said...

I know you didn't ask me but I'll bet you could do that, they give you a tracker but you could tell them you don't want to see it.

That's a thought. Maybe I could ask them about it, next meeting.

And Rebecca, I meant to say thanks for commenting! I really do appreciate the feedback. (The dog does too :)

The last WW leader I had was great but not good enough to make up for the nazi weigh-in ladies at the front desk. Alas, I discovered that I still needed to right things in my head before working on the larger parts of myself. Good luck.
