Quote du jour:
Mrs. Slocombe — Well, I said to him, quite sternly mind you, I said "If you don't take your hands away, young man, I'm getting off this bar stool and going home!"
Miss Brahms —And did he?
Mrs. Slocombe —He did not.
Miss Brahms —And did you go home?
Mrs. Slocombe —Eventually.
- Are you being served?
WTH du jour: They had an open box of “chocolate” truffles in the kitchen at work. I took one, even though I could see by the label on the box that the main ingredient was palm oil. It tasted rather gross.
I then had two more, to make sure I didn’t like them.
Site du jour: Boredom Enthusiasts Discover the Pleasures of Understimulation. No, that's not a link to The Onion. That's from the Wall Street Journal, for pete's sake. A conference on boredom. There's something out there for everybody.
Exercise du jour: 20 minutes climbing stairs. Gotta work off those truffles somehow.
Real chocolate truffles courtesy of Nieuw.

The first ingredient was palm oil?? This confuses me. Now I need to take a better look at the ingredients list of the chocolate I eat.
There is a shop in town that will make truffles to order. Starting with chocolate beans they have roasted themselves. They will tell you what time to come pick them up. If you're going to have chocolate, have good, real chocolate. Otherwise, the calories are sad, mishaped mutant calories that will cling to your butt with a tenacity unmatched by anything else in human experience.
Why do we continue to eat when what we thought would taste good taste like crap? I wont make the obvious analogy.
Now on to the Boring Institute. There's funds to keep this place in business while researchers across the US are scrapping for the same few millions to study new initiatives for cancer research?
There seems to be an odd balance there.
I like AYBS?
My second blog is called I Shall Never Forget the Russian Salad.
You must have even less to do than i have if you have time to research and go to conferences on boredom.
I've known that temptation to go back and taste again to make sure. Hold steady, you can resist.
Well, if you're going to do something to celebrate boredom, a conference would seem to be the appropriate way to go. Because the only thing more boring than a meeting is a meeting that's big enough to earn the title "Conference".
By the way, FN2 of this post meanders into a series of animadversions re: Titus Andronicus. I forget why. The post was about Othello.
Rest assured when I get around to re-reading TA, I will post about it.
You HAVE been warned.
Oops! It's actually Footnote 2a.
If you really want to celebrate boredom, just watch a Phillies game. That's worse than any conference.
I rather enjoyed the last Phillies game I watched, but then I was rooting for the Giants :)
My 11 y.o. son would fit in with the conference, "I'm bored."
Yes, but would he enjoy it? These people were really into it. People are truly strange.
Glaven, thanks for the link! I look forward to your Shakespeare posts.
MessyM, I'm usually better at resisting temptation. There's just something about the word, "truffle." I expected great things.
Ari, that sounds like an interesting blog, in a scary kind of way.
LaShaune, please do explain it to me. Then take the chocolate away from me, please.
Keith, I think I gained pounds just reading about that shop.
Xenia, my understanding is that chocolate over there is better than American chocolate. Not so?
You're right. He wouldn't enjoy it. I guess that's why he complains about being bored.
It's funny how he's so into video games and then wants to tell me all the cool things "he" did in the game. My eyes begin to glaze over. Then I'm bored.
