Sometimes you can get thos...Are they shin splints? Sometimes you can get those when your calf muscle becomes disproportionately stronger than the muscles around your shin. If the pain isn't too bad, and you really want to do the 4-miler, you could wrap them. But, um - that will definitely make it worse, and then you'll be out of commission for a week or two. Depens on how badly you want the 4-miler. (Full disclosure: I would do the 4 miles.
